Bongbong slams Leni’s ‘brazenness’

Former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., defeated candidate for vice president, hit the camp of Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo on Wednesday for claiming victory in his poll protest against her even as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) is yet to resolve the matter.

“We are appalled once more by the brazenness of Mrs. Robredo and her Liberal Party in claiming victory in my still ongoing election protest just as the tribunal announced that no action has been taken by the court on the Caguioa report,” Marcos said in a statement.

The former senator was referring to the report of Justice Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa on the recount of votes that was submitted to the tribunal for deliberation.

Supreme Court spokesman Brian Keith Hosaka announced on Tuesday that the manual recount in 5,415 voting precincts of three test provinces was already finished.

Marcos, who lost the race to Robredo in the 2016 elections, has identified election precincts in the provinces of Iloilo, Negros Oriental and Camarines Sur for recount and revision of ballots, alleging “massive cheating” that led to his loss.

“We have not received any formal notice or decision from the PET regarding this matter… Clearly, there has been a concerted effort to intimidate and coerce the [electoral] tribunal with their underhanded mind-conditioning tactics,” he said.

Robredo’s camp has remained unfazed by potential threats that may “deviate” from the results based on the original revision and recount of votes.

Photo from Motoph MANILA -- More commuters in Metro Manila can now enjoy the modern jeepney under the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) of the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte. This after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-National Capital Region (LTFRB-NCR) under the supervision of lawyer Zona Russet Tamayo launched last Friday an initial 23 units of modernized jeepneys along the Novaliches-Malinta route connecting Novaliches in Quezon City and Valenzuela City. The modernized jeepneys are operated by the Novaliches-Malinta Jeepney Transport Service Cooperative (NMJTSC) headed by Helen Viloria. Viloria said each unit has a seating capacity of 26 plus 10 to 15 standing passengers.
